TREFONEN’S popular walking event is back this weekend.

The 2019 Trefonen Hillwalk event is set to take place between Friday, May 24 and Monday, May 27.

With a variety of events aside from walking, the event appeals to a wide audience and attracts large numbers from the surrounding areas and beyond.

Organiser Helen Francis said: “It’s a village-based event, but anyone is welcome to come along.

“Each year, the event helps to raise money for one local charity and a charity abroad, but it’s not just about raising money, it’s about getting the community together.

“There is something for everyone over the weekend, there’s a lot more on offer than just walking.

“There’s drama, a quiz, running and lots more.”

This year, events will include a motorbike trial, a 16-mile walk, a tug of war and a duck race barbecue among other things to do.

Helen added: “We hope people are looking forward to it – it’s a good time and a fun day for everyone.

“This year’s theme is pirates.

“I think it’s a great event and it’s really good to keep the tradition going.

“We have people coming along who started coming when they were children, and now they’re bringing their own children with them.”

It will be the 25th year of the Mynydd Myfr run in the upcoming event.

Helen has urged people who may not have been before to come along.

She said: “For anyone who hasn’t been before; take a look at the website, pick something you might enjoy and come along.

“You don’t have to be from the area – everyone is welcome.”
