A housing advisor for Oswestry has been shortlisted for an award in this year's Housing Heroes.

Ro Lanceley is in the running for the ‘Inspirational Colleague of the Year’ after she was nominated by her colleagues and customers from the Shropshire Housing Alliance due to her selfless attitude and unbreakable commitment to helping others.

She will find out in June if she’s beaten the opposition to be awarded the title.

Ro has worked for Shropshire Housing Alliance (SHA), a homeless prevention and housing advice service, which is also part of The Wrekin Housing Group, for 12 years.

But for the last five years she has also had her own personal struggles with illness and treatments after being diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer.

She said: "The support I’ve received from my friends at SHA is nothing short of amazing, especially from my manager, Paula Phillips and Anne Johnston, a colleague in Oswestry.

"The team all work in different places; my areas are Oswestry and Market Drayton, which are quite rural, but the support network between us is so strong and with a friendly voice on the end of the phone if I need a chat.”

“I’m facing my illness in the best way that I can, and coming to work and dealing and with clients who are facing the prospect of homelessness as well as having other substantial problems, serves as a good reminder that there are people worse off than myself.”

The Housing Heroes awards recognise and celebrate the achievements of the many unsung heroes working within the housing sector.

Paula Phillips, advice and landlord services manager, added: “Ro is so positive and friendly and truly goes above and beyond for all of her clients despite what she’s facing – she’s selfless.

"Everyone admires Ro’s resilience and agencies, partners, landlords and tenants that we support ask after her well-being.

"It’s an inspiration and a privilege to work with someone like Ro.”

The awards ceremony will take place in Manchester in June to celebrate the achievements of all of the nominated heroes and Ro will discover if she’s become the newest ‘Inspirational Colleague of the Year’.
