A GROUP of youngsters are set to make their music debuts in Oswestry as part of a project launched by one of the town’s charities.

Qube launched the youth music project ‘Wzrds of Os’ last year, and now 15 youngsters will be performing music for the first time at Hermon Chapel.

The group will perform original compositions as well as cover versions of songs from a wide range of genres.

For the past seven months, the youth music project has enabled youngsters aged between of 14 and 19 the chance to work alongside music industry professionals.

Lead musician, Adrian Plant, said it has been a privilege to watch the group of young musicians grow into confident performers.

He said: “Most of these youngsters didn’t even know one another a few months ago.

“They’ve turned up to Qube every week to practice together and develop new skills, like song-writing and performing.

“They have learned to trust one another, and their confidence has grown massively. We are extremely proud of them all and what they have achieved as group, and as individuals.”

Qube’s Wzrds of Os project has been funded by Arts Council England and National Lottery through Youth Music, a national charity that supports the musical, personal and social development of young people.

Shrewsbury creative centre, The Hive, assisted Qube in the early stages of the project and youth workers were employed to support the young people taking part.

Qube’s chief officer, Laurel Roberts, said: “It just goes to show how young people can quickly excel and develop their unique talents when you give them a bit of space, support and direction.

“Hopefully this is the start of a long music journey for these young people. We encourage everyone to come along to the Hermon on May 25 and offer them encouragement.”

The Wzrds of Os performance takes place at Hermon Chapel, Arts Centre, Chapel Street, Oswestry on Saturday, May 25 at 7.30pm.

Tickets cost £5 plus booking fee and are available at www.hermonchapel.com

All proceeds raised from sales will support the Wzrds of Os project.
