It WAS a busy weekend at Henlle Park Golf Club near Gobowen on the last weekend of April as the club’s members welcomed the new captains for the upcoming season.

The annual drive-in for the captains took place at the course on Sunday, April 28, after being rescheduled because of bad weather. The event was nearly disrupted by the early arrival of Storm Hannah the day before.

Luckily the annual drive-in was able to go ahead however and members took part in competitions across the day to kick the season off.

The men’s Captain’s Drive In competition was won by Lewis Williams on countback, with Tony Davies finishing second and Dan Nash in third.

In the ladies’ competition, vice-captain for the new season, Michaela Pugh-Jones, took first place, with Viv Davies in second and Ellie Potts in third.

Junior captain Ellie also claimed the Kathy Evans Cup the following week after winning with 29 points on countback.

Club captain for the new season, Pete Cartwright, said: “Despite the storm, the course was in remarkable condition, so hats off to Huw and his team for all their efforts.

“A massive thank you from myself and the lady captain to you all for turning up on the day and for you generosity. We managed to raise £468 toward our nominated charity.”
