Unsurprisingly, Brexit was top of the agenda as a Welsh Conservative European candidate visited Montgomeryshire last weekend.

Lead Conservative candidate Dan Boucher dropped in to Newtown on Saturday, May 10 as he hit the campaign trail for next week's European elections, chatting to people on the street about what mattered to them ahead of the vote on May 23.

Mr Boucher said 'delivering Brexit' was the talk of the town during his time there.

"People in Newtown on Saturday just wanted to see Brexit delivered," he said.

"At this critical moment for our country, parties should not be playing politics or acting for their own personal gain. We need to come together, stay the course, and deliver Brexit. So we can get a deal done as soon as possible and focus on our future.

"A vote for the Conservatives is a vote for delivering a deal as soon as possible to do just that. And unlike other smaller parties, the Conservatives can actually deliver Brexit by having MPs in Parliament, 90% of whom have backed a Brexit deal and are re committed to seriously and responsibly delivering a deal."

Montgomeryshire Assembly Member Russell George added:

ā€œIā€™m disappointed that these European Parliament elections are happening. I do believe that regardless of how we voted in the EU referendum, it is vital that the result of the referendum is honoured. I was pleased that Dan Boucher as the lead Conservative candidate in Wales was able to listen to the views of people in Newtown on Saturday.ā€
