A LANDMARK Radnorshire hotel will go under the hammer at a property auction later today, Thursday, May 9.

The 16-bedroom Knighton Hotel was listed with a guide price of £375,000 ahead of the public auction held at the Aston Villa Football Club in Birmingham.

The future of the grade II listed building had seemed unclear after it shut its doors in mysterious circumstances, with the owners blaming "significant adverse publicity" for the sudden closure of both the Knighton Hotel and Presteigne’s Radnorshire Arms in 2018.

In November 2018, both were put up for sale by Colliers International Group, who said the company which owned both hotels, 'Leisure & Developments Ltd', had gone into administration.

The property is being offered at auction on behalf of the administrators of Leisure & Developments Ltd, which has had a total of 17 directors since it was formed in 2016.

The company listing at Companies House lists Keith Partdridge and Sukhbinder Heer as Leisure & Developments Ltd's current directors.

The Radnorshire Arms was not included in the auction.

Believed to date from 1867 the hotel includes a bar, restaurant and function room, as well as 16 en-suite letting rooms and staff accommodation, including a good sized duplex flat with its own separate entrance, according to the sales copy provided by auctioneers Bond Wolfe Auctions.

"The Knighton Hotel is an attractive and spacious grade II listed former hotel, situated within a prominent town centre location, considered suitable for a variety of alternative uses including residential, subject to obtaining the appropriate planning permission and listed building consent," it said.

"The Knighton Hotel is an impressive building, standing in the heart of the historic town centre.

Knighton is an attractive town in its own right and a centre for the surrounding smaller villages. Knighton is a popular tourist destination for those exploring Offa's Dyke and other areas within rural mid-Wales," it added.
