Oswestry’s mayor for 2018/19 has rounded off her year in office with the annual Civic Dinner.

Councillor Sandy Best hosted the event on Friday to thank her fellow members, dignitaries and people from around the town who have worked with her over the last 12 months.

The new Lord Lieutenant of Shropshire, Anna Turner, was also in attendance.

Cllr Best said: “The last 12 months have demonstrated just how busy this council is.

“It is a council that I believe is respected nationally and locally, it is innovative, it willingly accepts change, and works comfortably and successfully through many partnerships.

“I have been proud to be mayor and I thank all my colleagues within the council chamber for their help and support.”

The evening included the presentation of awards to individuals.

The recipients were:

Sue Turner for her work in organising the annual Oswestry Youth Music Festival;

Booka Bookshop – Tim and Carrie Morris were presented for bringing big names to the town and becoming a popular high street presence;

Ian Glenister who has recently retired as the council’s solicitor;

Bernard and Sue Coslett who recently retired having run the flower and plant stall on Oswestry market for over 30 years;

The Wynnstay – the Woodward family were recognised for their continued support of the town, as well as the business itself.
