A MAN suffered a fractured skull, a brain bleed and blurred vision after being hit to the back of the head in a pub car park during a “completely unprovoked” attack, a court heard on Wednesday.
Magistrates at Llandudno were told victim Nicholas Ashton hit the ground face first at Denbigh. He was taken to Ysbyty Glan Clwyd. He’d been attacked in the early hours by Kristian Pierce who turned 25 that day last November.
Prosecutor Gareth Parry said Pierce, of Maes y Goron, Denbigh, had accepted his unprovoked actions and expressed remorse.
He had been drinking and mistook the victim for someone involved in disorder inside the pub. Mr Parry said the magistrates’ sentencing powers were insufficient.
Pierce pleaded guilty to inflicting grievous bodily harm on November 11.
Defence solicitor Chris Dawson said Pierce “lost control and lashed out”.
Mr Ashton had nothing to do with the trouble inside the pub.
“He was the wrong man in the wrong place,” the lawyer agreed.
Pierce had been interviewed voluntarily by police five days after the attack.
He was remanded on unconditional bail by the magistrates until May 23 at Mold crown court. A pre-sentence report was ordered.
Court chairman Toby Prosser told him: "You pleaded guilty to a serious assault, the consequences of which do require us to send matters to the crown court.”
