WITH the track and field athletics season rapidly approaching, Oswestry Olympians Juniors brought their winter programme to a conclusion with success at the Shropshire under-10 and U11 Cross-Country Championships.
After a warm welcome from the staff at Concord College, the Oswestry contingent found the course to be dry and flat with a large portion on a prepared grass running track.
Emelia Lloyd and Ryan Paige both finished third in the U10s races to take home individual medals. Also winning bronze medals were the U11 Boys’ team of Archie Calloway (13th), Lewis Bennett (14th), Freddie Heasmer-Jones (16th) and Rile Woolcock (21st).
Other well-placed Olympians were Jessica Card 12th (U10 Girls), Danny Gray 14th (U10 Boys) and Daniel Paige 19th (U10 Boys) and Kate Hotchkiss ninth (U11 Girls).
Club training now focuses on the track and field with members preparing for four Shropshire Young Athletes League meetings where club teams at U11, 13, 15 and 17 will compete against members of Shrewsbury, Much Wenlock, Telford and Maldwyn (Newtown) athletics clubs, while several individuals have also entered the Shropshire Championships to be held in Telford.
