THERE was great success for a pair of brothers boxing out of Maelor Amateur Boxing Club in the South Wales Championships last weekend.

Harry Roberts and Tom Roberts of St Martins both picked up silver medals at the event in Cardiff.

Harry battled through a good contest with Cardigan-based boxer Ioan Croft.

Ioan had previously won the tournament six times along with being British champion and representing Wales on the international stage across the world.

The pair took the fight into the judges’ hands, giving them a very tough decision to make after such a close contest.

The spectators in attendance gave the pair a standing ovation after the fight had finished.

Tom also fought well in his bout with Llanderyn boxer Junior Griffiths.

Junior is a double Welsh champion and also endured a tough contest with the St Martins fighter.

Maelor ABC coach David Jones said the area should be very proud of the two youngsters.

He said: “The two boys gave 100 percent and you can’t ask for more than that.

“It is a pleasure to work with them both, St Martins and North Wales should be proud of them.

“A big well done to both.”
