MONTGOMERY Church in Wales School pupils are jumping for joy as they celebrate a glowing Estyn report that has rated their school as 'Good' in all areas.

Schools inspectorate Estyn praised the school for its "happy and caring community where staff support pupils well in a nurturing ethos that results in nearly all pupils feeling that staff treat them fairly and with respect" during their visit in February.

The report describes pupils as "making good progress and achieving well"

and highlights the "productive relationships with parents" which "further promotes a sense of community and shared purpose."

Estyn acknowledged the headteacher for setting "high professional standards for herself and all staff" with the support of an "enthusiastic" team of teachers and teaching assistants.

Inspectors have drawn up a list of three recommendations and the school will be required to create an action plan so Estyn can review its progress. They include enabling pupils aged seven to 11 to make purposeful decisions within lessons "to develop into resilient, independent learners"; develop pupils’ speaking and listening skills in Welsh in key stage 2; and further developing shared leadership responsibilities across the school.

"I am so proud of all of the hard work that our pupils, staff and Governors at Montgomery Primary School continually put into our school," assistant headteacher Mrs Mees said.

"The report highlights that the school is a ‘happy caring community that creates a nurturing ethos’. This is certainly something that I feel is very apparent to anyone who visits us here at Montgomery Primary. The staff and the pupils are an absolute credit and should be incredibly proud of themselves - I know I am!’

Chair of the Governing Body Hugh Anton-Stephens added: "Everyone at the school can be delighted with this report, and can be justly proud of what has been achieved. The inspectors were evidently very satisfied with the experience of their visit to us, and we can now continue to build for the future with raised confidence. We have a great team at Montgomery Primary School and it is a deep pleasure to see that being publicly recognised."
