A MAN from Oswestry is looking to take part in a remarkable seventh London Marathon in nine years.

Jody Wilson, 38, will be taking part in this years London Marathon, in aid of Leukaemia Care.

Jody Said: "This will be my seventh London marathon in nine years for charity, and I’ve been fortunate to raise over £22,000 for three causes along the way.

"In 2010 I ran for the Severn hospice after my dad, Paul was cared for there before he passed anyway from lung cancer in 2001.

"In 2011 and 2013 I ran for Asthma UK as I have suffered from Asthma since the age of 15, and this will be my fourth London marathon in as many years for leukaemia care as my eldest sister Thea was diagnosed with a rare form of the disease back in 2014.

"I had watched my sister Thea compete in the marathon when I was younger and always wanted to do just one to prove I could do something like that, and when the opportunity arose to run for the hospice in 2010 I jumped at the chance, especially to thank the people who cared for my dad in his last days.

"By my own admittance I’ve never been a fast runner, my quickest being four hours 37 and last year I plodded round the hottest London marathon on record in over six hours, but to me it’s never been about times, it’s been about the fundraising, and the sense of achieving what many others have only dreamed of.

"I have raised the money over in a number of different ways, with the help of fellow marathon runners Jason Turner and this year Matt Plowden. I’ve held casino nights, had a former X Factor finalist sing, quiz nights, table top sales, ladies pamper nights.

"I even did a sponsored leg and chest wax in the kings head pub, this year I held a Santa run around the grounds of Moreton Hall school where I work as groundsman, and have an 80s themed party night and hog roast planned for early June.

"I’m not sure how many more I will run in the future but ten is such a nice number, so will see what the future brings, for the moment im concentrating on London and in September I will be running the great north run for the first time, and of course will be running with my leukaemia vest proudly once again."

Jody is also offering an added incentive to support him by offering a prize three night stay in a Pooh Hall holiday cottage in Clun, Shropshire for those who donate £5 or more.
