AFTER its debut in the town last year, Oswestry’s very own Comic Con will be returning in August.

OzCon took place for the first time in August 2018, giving people from Oswestry and the surrounding areas the chance to meet some of television and film’s stars right on their doorstep.

The event will be held at the same venue as last year – Oswestry Leisure Centre – on the weekend of August 10 and August 11.

This year, guests including John Challis, famous for playing Boycie in Only Fools and Horses, Ross O'Hennessy of Game of Thrones, the cast of The Brittas Empire and Christopher Ryan of Doctor Who will be in town.

Organiser Martin Portlock gave his thoughts on the event.

He said: “Last year’s event was great. It was a really big success.

“We had a successful cosplay competition which offered good prizes for local people to come along and attempt to win.

“We’ve had a lot of interest already this year, so we’re hoping it will be even bigger this year after the success of last year’s event.

“To keep the event here, we really need people to keep coming along and supporting it.

“It’s something different for everyone of any age in the area to come along and enjoy.

“We also collected money at the event last year for our chosen charity Alzheimer’s Research UK – we’re hoping to do the same this time round.”

Last year, the event welcomed guests including voice actor Marc Silk, special creature performer Spencer Wilding and actress Virginia Hey.

With more guests confirmed this year, Martin is hoping the event will once again offer something for everyone.

He added: “If you’re free on the weekend and a big fan of television and film, whether you’re an adult or a child, it’s guaranteed fun.

“There are multiple celebrities and characters to see and plenty of photo opportunities.

“On top of that, it is a great opportunity for people to come along and support the event and the town.

“We wanted to bring something new to Oswestry when we brought the event here – after the event last year, we recognised we had done that.

“We’d encourage everyone to keep an eye on our social media pages to find out about any updates or any more news regarding the event.”
