CHILDREN from a primary school in Oswestry have joined a region wide project to increase skills an togetherness in schools.

Members of the Borderlands Rotary Club visited the Meadows Primary School on Tuesday, to welcome them to the Rota Kids project.

The national project allows children to get involved with their community, build up new skills and meet new people along the way.

The visit from the Borderlands Rotary Club also coincided with the school electing members of the Rota Kids, with the school president and officers being officially presented.

Sherie Soper, chair of the Borderlands Rotary Club, said: "The Rota Kids is a wonderful way to build up the club in the community.

"As a club, we help children build skills in working together, organising events and holding meetings with each other.

"Enhancing these skills holds a lot of opportunities. All children can take part and we as a club help out with ideas for the children.

"What we are endeavouring to do is to join other Rota Kids groups together. We are hoping that groups can link up so when children move up to secondary school a lot have already met up.

"This also helps raise the profile of Rotary in the area."
