PEOPLE in Oswestry will have the chance to meet one of the world’s highest ranked snooker players when he comes to town next month.

Former world number one Mark Selby will take on members of the Oswestry and District Billiards and Snooker League at the annual “Celebration of Snooker” event.

Selby, known affectionately as ‘the Jester from Leicester’ has dominated the number one position in snooker for the past four years and is currently the holder of the China Championship.

The three-time World Champion will compete in nine frames of snooker against members of the League, overseen by World snooker and pool referee Michaela Tabb, before presenting trophies to the players for their efforts throughout the year.

The event, hosted by Oswestry and District Billiards and Snooker League, will be held at Ifton Miners Welfare Institute, St Martins near Oswestry, on Saturday, April 13.

League secretary Ian Jones said: “It will be a great night for snooker fans and a fantastic end to our season to have Mark Selby here.

“Over the past few years we have hosted some truly magnificent snooker champions, including Mark Williams last year, who went on to win the World Championships a few weeks later!

“Let’s hope we can be lucky for Mark too!”

Doors will open at 6.45pm and the snooker will start at 7.30pm.

Tickets are priced at £20 and there will be a chance for photographs and autographs.
