YSGOL Calon Cymru could receive almost half-a-million pounds worth of major improvements, Powys County Council has announced.

The cash injection of nearly £400,000 would be used to improve disabled access, toilet refurbishment and lift repairs at the Builth Wells campus.

Rhayader Primary School could also see more than £80,000 spent on health and safety improvements.

If a recommendation is approved by the county council’s Cabinet, Powys schools will receive £2 million of investment in the coming financial year as part of a major improvement plan.

The Cabinet will be asked approve an improvement fund of £2 million for primary and secondary school work including improving disabled access, security work, improved sports facilities and classroom improvements to support the 21st Century Schools programme in the 2019/20 financial year.

Cabinet Member for Learning and Welsh Language, Councillor Myfanwy Alexander said: “The projects detailed in this document represent a substantial investment by the County Council in schools across the county as part of our ambition to provide all young people with appropriate learning environments for 21st Century Education.”

The report will be considered by the county council’s Cabinet on Tuesday, March 26.
