People came from far and wide to take part in the annual celebration of Ireland’s patron saint at Chirk Castle on Sunday.
The yearly dog walk organised by Hector’s Greyhound Rescue Centre at Chirk Castle attracted more than 40 dog walkers to the castle grounds for the St Patrick’s Day dog walk.
Lead by Hector’s ‘Irish charmer’ Fred Brown, visitors walked just short of three kilometres around the castle grounds with their dogs.
Fred who is a trustee at the centre, said: “I think it’s very important that we organise events like this one.
“The idea is to familiarise some of the rescued greyhounds with other dogs.
“People have a lot of pre-conceived ideas about greyhounds because a lot of them are trained to chase things.
“We want to make people aware that that’s something they can be trained out of.”
Fred said he was pleased with the reaction to the event and the number of people in attendance.
“It’s always well-attended,” he said.
“It’s just nice the weather’s held out and allowed it to go ahead and allowed everyone to enjoy a nice day out with their dogs.”
