CHILDREN from Oswestry joined youngsters across Europe to commemorate one of the town's most famous sons.
Oswestry School pupils planted a cherry tree on Monday to mark the birthday of First World War poet Wilfred Owen, who was born on March 18, 1893.
Several European schools have planted cherry trees, each to be known as known as the 'Wilfred Owen Poet-Tree, Desiring Peace' –the latter part of the title referring to the Saxon meaning of the poet's first name.
Oswestry School pupils read Owen’s poem Written In A Wood from September 1910 during the planting ceremony.
They were joined by schools from Edinburgh, County Armagh, Ors in France and Hannover in Germany.
