IT IS hoped that a new CCTV camera will help resolve antisocial behaviour issues in an Oswestry park.

Oswestry Town Council's Development and Planning Committee has agreed to spend £3,600 on a camera for Cae Glas Park, to be installed at nearby Bellan House Preparatory School.

Town clerk David Preston said that the issue had been highlighted by the park's management group and the CCTV group.

"We've looked at the various options and because of the amount of use of the park, this is the best option that's available and the school has been very supportive to us.

"It's something that the council seems as if it has wanted to do for quite a long time because of some of the issues we have been experiencing there and so this is an opportunity to provide a solution."

In a report to the meeting, assistant town clerk Arren Roberts said that the camera would cover the park, including the bandstand.

The camera would cost £3,629, which covers installations, radio link and a three year warranty.

Mr Roberts told the Advertizer before the meeting that there had been some "minor incidents" of antisocial behaviour in the park.

Councillor Paul Milner proposed that members accept the recommendation.

Cllr Peter Cherrington seconded the proposal and praised the new camera's proposed location, which he said was "going to be very beneficial".
