YOUNGSTERS showed their fascinating explorations of the world of science at a school fair.

Parents and pupils attended Trefonen Primary School’s annual science fair, where projects and experiments on a multitude of topics were on display.

The event aims to encourage the children’s curiosity about the various scientific subjects,

Teacher Laura Prust said that the fair is part of the school’s annual science week, which included visits from Techniquest, a beekeeper and a representative from a planetarium.

Mrs Prust said that around two thirds of the school’s pupils took part in this year’s fair, along with parents, adding: “ A lot them plan it all year and then show here.”

She added that there had been a “fantastic” response to the event from both pupils and their parents.

There were plenty of exhibits both inside and outside the building as part of the fair.

Topics included how planes fly and understanding how to measure the enormous distances between objects in space.

Other subjects included how the human body consumes food, the history of volcanoes of Vesuvius and Pompeii.

Children also showed how to make balloon rockets, the interesting ways colour mix by using different sweets – and even a project on slime.

Mrs Prust added that the event encouraged children to “love science, question the world around them and want to learn, which is what science is all about.”
