Oswestry's mayor has warned the region's Police and Crime Commissioner must deliver on his promises.

Councillor Sandy Best said she wanted to see results after pledges were made by John Campion during a visit to the town last month.

During the meeting, the PCC heard from residents and councillors who highlighted areas of concern with a view to addressing them.

Cllr Best told last night's (Monday's) town council meeting: "We need to see the results. We have been given promises and now we have to wait and see."

In response to the PCC's pledge to bring four additional police officers to Oswestry, Cllr Best added: "It is not all about numbers."

She continued: "It was good to hear what everyone had to say at the meeting, but I did not come away totally satisfied with the answers that were given but will wait to see if they carry out their promise.

"We need to keep an eye on them and wait and see."

The meeting was arranged at the request of deputy mayor Councillor John Price.

He said he felt it was beneficial, adding: "Oswestry is a cracking place to live.

"The public can help to fight crime by reporting anything suspicious. It is not just down to the police. We need to put the 'c' back in community.

"Everybody has a role to play. Everybody needs to be engaged."

Councillors also agreed that it is important to maintain links with the police and agreed to invite Oswestry's inspector Tracy Ryan to future meetings.
