PATIENTS can take a look into the medical mind thanks to a new book.
Retired Oswestry GP Paul Middleton has written Doctor In Mind to explain the how doctors talk and behave during appointments.
Dr Middleton, 61, worked at the Caxton Surgery in the town for 30 years.
The book follows four generations of a fictional family as they visit a surgery with various issues.
"Really the conditions are secondary. I'm not teaching the people bout the conditions – I'm teaching the people about the interactions between doctor and the patient," he said.
"The doctors are trained in a certain way and that gives them a language and behaviour of their own."
Dr Middleton – who was involved in training doctors for many years and lectured at Keele University – added that the book details "how we try to get you in and out in 10 minutes and still try to do the job properly".
He added that the book aims to explain miscommunication so that they might be less likely to happen again.
Proceeds from the book will be donated to the Nigel O'Connor Haemotology Unit at the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.
Doctor In Mind is available in paperback or on Kindle from Amazon.
