A MID-Wales school has been doing its bit for the planet by recycling used crisp packets.

Llandysilio Church in Wales school has started a recycling programme alongside Walkers crisps to look after the environment.

The school started the programme through TerraCycle, and has so far recycled more than 1,000 crisp packets.

Vice-chair of the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) Donna Kendall, is proud to see the students doing their bit for the planet.

“The whole idea is to help the environment,” she said.

“These recycled crisp packets get made into re-usable items or things such as benches and trays.

“We have a great system at the school which focuses on the environment and well-being of the planet.

“We have an eco-club which teaches the children how to look after their environment.

“It is a great way to do our bit for the planet – we want to help in whatever way we can.”

The school has invited residents of the surrounding area to recycle their crisp packets through the initiative.

The drop off point for crisp packets is at Llandysilio School and is open to anybody in the community between 9am and 3pm Monday to Friday.

Donna added: “For each packet we recycle we get points and these points are turned into pennies for the school.

“The school is then able to spend these pennies on a variety of things to better the education for the pupils here.”
