The New Saints boss Scott Ruscoe is looking forward to the chance to reclaim top spot in the Welsh Premier League as they face Caernarfon Town on Monday night.

Saints make the trip to the Gwynedd coast knowing that a win could take them top if leaders Connah’s Quay Nomads and Barry Town United draw, as the latter did with a 10-man TNS on Saturday with a late leveller.

Ruscoe, while still disappointed at the manner of dropping two points, said his side are already focused on a tough clash with the promoted side, who have made their home a formidable place to play.

“The Barry game wasn’t a setback,” said Ruscoe.

“We’ve played eight games, drawn two, won six with 30 goals-plus scored and two conceding, and now all that means is we’ve played and drawn three with four conceded.

“There’s nothing we can do about it now and Barry host Connah’s Quay on Saturday night – both of them can’t get three points, and I think it will be a draw.

“A Barry win would be great for us because it means Nomads are pegged back and if we win on Monday then we’re on top.”

“Caernarfon away is going to be a different matter to playing Barry at home, who didn’t score in open play against us.

“They’re good at home, and play well when they play up to their crowd there but I really want to see us go out there and be ruthless in front of goal.

“If we score one, I want two , I want three and I want to see us totally dominate possession, which is what we’ve been doing lately.

“Yes we’ve scored goals too and won comfortably but we haven’t always controlled games like I like us to. “

The Oval clash kicks off at 7.45pm and is live on Sgorio’s Facebook page.
