AN OSWESTRY-based architectural practice has been recognised by Shropshire Council for its part in an Oswestry project.

Design and Planning Associates Ltd, based on Salop Road, worked to renovate the Gatacre Pavilion and have received a design and conservation award from Shropshire Council.

The pavilion is the home to Cae Glas Cricket Club and has been subject to vandalism and wear and tear over the years.

It was originally built in 1974, and has now been renovated into a modern, multi-purpose building serving local sport organisations and groups.

During the renovation, the building was stripped back to its original timber frame skeleton which was thankfully structurally sound.

The pavilion was then rebuilt around the existing timber frame utilising modern insulated materials with red cedar timber cladding externally.

The internal room arrangements have been reconfigured to create a larger communal area and additional facilities for disabled users. Also, the changing facilities were increased by the infill of the covered porch.

The two directors Gavin Porritt & Gareth Edwards of Design and Planning Associates, Oswestry, said: “Thank you to Shropshire Council for this award.

“The project would not have been possible without generous funding from Oswestry Borough Council together with funding from WREN and most importantly, the dedication and commitment from Cae Glas Cricket Club members.

“We are truly delighted to receive this award in recognition of our involvement at the Gatacre Pavilion.

“It was a fantastic project to be involved with and to work closely with the Cricket Club.”
