Future Fit consultation was a waste of time...

IT HAS been revealed of the 18,742 responses to the survey ‘where should Shropshire’s sole A&E be sited’, two thirds of the responses came from frustrated Telford residents – naturally backing their own town – BUT it’s still the town which is to lose its A&E.

To add insult to injury it was pretty obvious to everyone, that ‘geographically central’ Shrewsbury was the obvious choice, right from the beginning. So how bizarre that Future Fit dismissed all the responses in its protracted dealings to say it WILL be sited in Shrewsbury.

That proves just how futile – and a complete and utter waste of five years of bizarre talking – that the survey was.

A nurse’s ‘hidden’ tale...

A YOUNG auxiliary nurse called Elsie – at our Orthopaedic Hospital when Dame Agnes Hunt was still matron – was caught snatching a quick smoke in a quiet end of a ward. Caught red-handed by the ward sister, she was told the matron would more than likely pack her off home!

Elsie’s daughter revealed, as she entered the matron’s office, Agnes Hunt noticed her shaking like a leaf and...amazingly offered her a cigarette - and had one herself! Then came her warning: “Now you have had one on me, let no-one, and especially me, ever catch you again”.

This fascinating tale is revealed by Will Walter, co-admin of the charming Hidden Oswestry website.

It's not easy being green...

BEWARE – Shropshire IS considering charging for removing ‘green waste’ – which is what’s currently included in your council tax.

The council’s come clean, after rumours that was its plan!

“We’ve delivered savings of more than £48 in the last three years ... and a proposal to charge for green waste collections IS included in our current 2019/20 budget consultation...but we’ve currently no firm plans for implementation”! Oh yeh!

The budget proposals get discussed in a fortnight at the full council on February 28.

Hope for cinema?

KINOKULTURE is sending out some encouraging vibes over its future. Cinema manager Ian Garland, and the Rev Carole Marsden on behalf of his Christ Church landlords, have released a joint statement that, despite still facing challenges they are ‘optimistic that a positive future is ahead’.

And the statement concludes: “Ongoing legal discussions mean that it would be inappropriate for past, current and future details to be shared or commented on at this point, but both Kinokulture and Christ Church look forward to sharing (it) with the wider community in the future.”

Library campaign...

FINALLY, if you want to help save Llanfyllin Library – join demonstrators outside County Hall in Llandrindod Wells on Thursday, February 21, between 9am and 10am.
