A ST Martins-based kickboxing club has had success at the recent World Fightsport and Martial Arts Council British International Open Championships.

The event took place at the North Solihull Sports Centre on Saturday.

For many of the youngsters at the Border Kickboxing Club, it was their first tournament – but that failed to hinder their performances as they brought back one gold, nine silvers and a handful of bronze medals.

Bringing home the gold in the medal haul was Finn Stockdale, who also took a silver in a separate event.

Steve Stockdale and Ciara Stockdale took bronze and silver medals, respectively.

Cerys Fleet and Dan O’Connell took silvers, while Luke Fleet took a silver and bronze home.

One medal wasn’t enough for James Nicholas and Hal Chesterfield, as they both brought home two silver medals each.

Club member Laura O’Donnell said she was pleased with the success.

She said: “Every single one of them has been so hard-working leading up to this.

“They have all given 110 per cent. We’re now all looking forward to the World championships in July.”
