A KICKBOXING club based in St Martins has taken medals at this year’s English Opens.

The K1 Kickboxing English Opens took place in Barnsley last weekend, and two of the members at Border Kickboxing brought medals home from the event.

There was success for both a newcomer and an experienced fighter.

Jack Jerrard won a gold medal in the 75kg weight class.

The 27-year-old added to his long list of accolades, which includes the 2013 World Kickboxing Association (WKA) Midlands Area Championship, 2014 WKA English championship and the 2014 Unified World Martial Arts Championship.

In 2018, Jack also won his last three mixed martial arts bouts, winning each via a knockout in the first round.

His medal was added to by Luke Fleet who was making his debut at the opens.

The 17-year-old claimed a silver medal in the low kick rules kickboxing 75kg weight class.

The club has given its thanks to its sponsors that have helped them over the years.

Spokesman for the club Laura O’Donnell said: “We’d like to thank Lepone’s Italian restaurant, Mr Alan Newbold and D&J Thomas Butchers.

“Well done to both Jack and Luke for performing so well at the competition.”

Jack is the head coach at Border Kickboxing, and holds classes at St Martins scout hut on a Tuesday and Llangollen Leisure Centre at Dinas Bran on a Thursday, both from 6-8pm.
