A YOUTH football academy in Oswestry has received a boost thanks to a Whittington business.

Dragon Academy and Development Centre has been presented with new kit sponsored by JL Tyres of Whittington Business Park.

Dragon ADC is a not-for-profit organisation aimed at providing local talented football players with a high level of coaching from Under-8s right through to Colts (U-16s), as well as specialist professional goalkeeping coaching.

Nick Popyk, head of the centre, said: “The new kit will ensure the coaches are not just kitted out professionally but also easy for the kids and parents to recognise”.

He added: “One of the main advantages of training and playing with Dragon ADC is that players can still play with their local grassroots clubs and as such they have the majority of their registered members playing in the Shropshire, mid Wales or Wrexham area junior leagues ensuring their development is aided by the regular fixtures these well run clubs can offer.”

“It’s great to have the support of JL Tyres, and their involvement has really helped our progress.”

Louise Idoux, of JL Tyres, said: ‘”The work Nick and the team do is fantastic and seeing the kids’ skills develop, we knew we’d be investing in a great group and hopefully can help the guys focus on coaching the next generation of top footballers from the area”
