POLICE investigating an alleged rape in an Oswestry alleyway have made an arrest.
West Mercia Police spokesman Nigel Sargeant said today (Tuesday, February 5) that a man had been arrested an released under investigation in connection with an alleged rape in Clawdd Du early on Sunday.
Clawdd Du was cordoned off on Monday as West Mercia Police investigated the incident, which is reported to have happened shortly after 1am on Sunday.
Police say that the female involved sustained a number of grazes.
Investigating officer, Detective Sergeant Malcolm Normandin, said on Monday: "This was clearly a distressing incident for the victim and we have specially trained officers providing her with support at this time.
"We understand the concern incidents such as this cause and are carrying out extensive enquiries to trace the person responsible.
"Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101 quoting incident 519S of 3 February, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111".
