PUPILS at an Oswestry secondary school have gained an insight into the world of higher education.

Around 150 Year 9 students from the Marches School embarked on a trip to the University of Chester to show the opportunities that will be available to them.

Students spent the day at the Parkgate Road Campus and attended activities and presentations organised by Isabel Leah from the Outreach Team.

Activities included ‘Dream University’, ‘Career Detectives’, an interactive game and a tour around the university campus.

Meg Murphy, careers advisor at the Marches School, said: “It was a fantastic day and we must thank the University of Chester for their help in organising the day and hosting us. The Year 9 students thoroughly enjoyed themselves and it has opened their eyes at the thought of attending university in the future”.

Isabel Leah, widening participation officer at the University of Chester, added: “We would like to thank the Year 9 students for attending the day and it was wonderful to host such an attentive group of students. It was an enjoyable day and we look forward to welcoming more students from the school in future”.
