OLD friends have come together with some brand-new artists to take part in the first exhibition of 2019.

Friday, January 25 from 7.30pm: ‘Hannah and Brian’ at Four Crosses Village Centre.

LLANDYSILIO Church has organised an event when acoustic duo ‘Hannah and Brian’ will entertain.

Tickets cost £12 to include a light supper and licensed bar.

Saturday, January 26 from 8pm: Vera Van Heeringen Trio at the Willow Gallery, Willow Street, Oswestry.

EVER-POPULAR multi-instrumentalist Vera draws upon Americana-bluegrass-folk, and tells beguiling stories in her songs. She is accompanied by Dave Luke (guitar/mandolin/vocals) and Andy Seward (double bass).

Thursday, January 24 and 31 at 12noon and 1.15pm: Nordic Walking at Chirk Castle.

NORDIC walking is one of the fastest growing outdoor activities in the UK, offering a full body workout with specially designed walking poles.

Enjoy the beauty of the Chirk Castle estate by joining our weekly Nordic walking sessions, every Thursday, led by a qualified instructor.

There will be a drop-in from 12noon to 1pm for a Nordic Walking taster, or join the walk from 1.15pm. Walk duration 90 minutes.

Erddig Nordic Walkers ask for a £1 voluntary contribution to help with group costs.

THE story opens with young American Susie Bannion (Dakota Johnson), traveling to Germany in order to audition for a renowned dance academy. She attracts the attention of school director and lead choreographer Madame Blanc (Tilda Swinton), becoming the older woman’s protegee. Yet, as Susie begins her formal dance training, other students are whispering about a coven of witches who they believe control the school.

Adapted from David Grann’s New Yorker article, The Old Man and the Gun tells the story of Forrest Tucker, the self-styled ‘Houdini’ whose many audacious prison breaks included an Alcatraz flight in a homemade kayak, and whose last robbery was committed when he was 79.

Tuesday, January 29 at 7.30pm: Women On The Verge Of A Nervous Breakdown (15) at Kinokulture Cinema, Arthur Street, Oswestry.

MELDING melodrama with screwball farce, Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown was Pedro Almodóvar’s international breakthrough and secured his place at the vanguard of modern European cinema.

Starring frequent Almodóvar collaborators Carmen Maura and Antonio Banderas, it was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards and won five Goyas in Spain.
