APPLICATIONS for the biggest walk in Wales, the Rotary Across Wales Walk 2019, are now open.

Newtown Rotarian John Evans said: "We are pleased to announce that the application process for this year’s walk is now open. Entries can either be made on line or by post. To enter online, go to our website https://rotaryacrosswaleswalk.org. If you prefer, you can post your entries to RAWW c/o MWAC, Maesmawr, Caersws, Powys SY17 5SB."

"This is the 14th year that the Rotary Clubs of Newtown, Llanidloes and Machynlleth have combined to organise this exciting event.

"The rotary clubs were proud to take up the challenge of organising an event that originated in the 1970s when the Principal of the then Montgomery College (now NPTC) devised a walking event mainly for the students. The popularity of the event quickly grew and it has long been a fixture on the Saturday nearest the longest day."

The 42 mile route starts near Machynlleth and winds its way over the hills and valleys to the Anchor, just over the border in Shropshire.

Shorter walks are available such as 26 miles from Staylittle or 16 miles from LLandinam. There is even an eight mile stage starting at the Devils Elbow which is ideal walk for children and families.

This walk is an ideal way to get fit (start training early), to enjoy the magnificent scenery of Mid Wales or to raise sponsorship money for your favourite charity.
