MEIFOD Local History Group’s first meeting of 2019 takes place on Thursday, January 17, in Meifod Village Hall.

The group’s annual meeting will run from 7.30pm to 8pm, followed by a talk from local husband and wife team Mike and Trish who are keen metal detecting enthusiasts. They will give an illustrated talk sharing their passion for their hobby, explain how and why they got started, and what equipment they use, and show a selection of their finds.

The meeting is free to members of the group, and £4 for guests. Guests are asked to arrive at the beginning of the meeting, and are, of course, welcome at the short annual meeting. Free refreshments will be provided during the meeting.

Meifod Local History Group’s 2019 programme is now ready, and offers a variety of talks, events and visits throughout the year. Talks include Bob Silvester talking about old local maps, Edward Parry talking about Montgomeryshire’s black and white houses, and Andrew Jenkinson talking about the history and restoration of the Montgomery Canal. The group will also be visiting the Powys Archives, and the Flaxmill Maltings in Shrewsbury.

Membership of the group costs £10-a-year (running for a year from the date of joining) and talks and visits are free for members. For a copy of the full 2019 programme contact Frances Ward: frances.ward1514@btinternet.com or call 01938 500107.
