EMERGENCY services were called after a Christmas tree caught fire in an Oswestry home.

Firefighters from Oswestry and Ellesmere were called to Arundel Road at 8.45pm on Monday, January 8.

A Shropshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said that two casualties were in the care of the ambulance service.

Crews used hosereel jets, covering jets, positive pressure ventilation fan, thermal imaging camera and triple/short extension ladder during the call out.

A total of four fire appliances attended, along with the British Red Cross Fire and Emergency Support Service (FESS), West Mercia Police and the ambulance services.

A spokesman for the West Midlands Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the incident at 8.45pm on Monday.

"We treated one man who suffered minor injuries at the scene before he was taken to the Royal Shrewsbury Hospital.

"A number of other occupants were assessed at the scene but they were not taken to hospital."
