MEMBERS of Oswestry Cambrian Rotary Club have now completed their Santa street collection with the help from the Young Farmers, Mile End Golf Club, The Movement Centre, St Martins “Girls on the Run” and great teams from Whittington and Gobowen.

Their help made it possible to get Santa to St Martins, Gobowen, Whittington and Park Hall this year and made it a real community event, as well as attending the Christmas Parade in Oswestry, Santa was out on the streets on 20 other occasions through December, collecting a total of £6,000 to be distributed around local charities, organisations and other Rotary-supported projects.

President Cath Baldry said: “Santa and the collectors were greeted with warm smiles and even cups of hot chocolate on the street collection rounds and seeing the faces of the children was wonderful.

“This year Santa went high tech and we used a tracker system that proved very successful. Hundreds of photos were taken and at one-point Santa was being videoed “live” to Bangladesh!”

“We will be making the dream happen for the children again next year. In November 2019 we will be seeking the help of the local parishes again to help us with our collection schedule; hopefully we could get to Trefonen and Weston Rhyn.”

The Oswestry Cambrian club is ready to welcome men and women of 18+ from the local community who want to be “people of action”. We meet informally and without a meal or any of the old traditions of Rotary at The Wynnstay Hotel, Church Street, Oswestry on Thursday evenings at 7.45pm.
