RESIDENTS on a Chirk street have raised their concerns about the condition of some of the town’s roads.

Members of the community have claimed that potholes on the roads have been there for a matter of years, and despite being reported to Wrexham County Borough Council, they remain unfixed.

Colliery Road resident Grant Dodsworth has lived in Chirk for eight years and spoke about how the council has only provided temporary fixes for the potholes over the years, and that they are still awaiting a permanent fix despite reporting the issue on numerous occasions.

Grant said: “We’ve had enough to be honest.

“We’ve lived here for eight years and this has been an issue on a few of the roads here ever since.

“We cannot even drive down our own street without fear of damaging our own cars.

“People are having to avoid this junction or enter it on the wrong side – it has been reported three times and they keep patching it up instead of sorting out a permanent fix.

“It’s going to cause an accident.

“Each time they patch up the potholes, it seems to last about three months or less before the holes reappear and become an issue again.

“The temporary fixes turn into chippings and stones eventually, again meaning more risk of damage to vehicles using the road.

“Why can they not just do it properly?”

The absence of a permanent fix for the potholes in the area is something that has frustrated Grant, who believes more should be done by the council.

He added: “We all pay council tax, but it seems we don’t get what is promised to us in return.

“At no point has the council fixed the road back to how it should be.

“It’s 2019, we don’t live in the olden days any more, it should be sorted.

“It’s the equivalent of putting new carpet on top of old carpet.

“They have had plenty of opportunities to fix it.

“Why can’t they just say ‘right let’s go there and get the job done properly’?”

A spokesman for Wrexham Council said: “All potholes are prioritised and inspected in line with our highways inspection policy.”
