RESIDENTS have been urged to be vigilant in the run up to Christmas after two burglaries near Oswestry.

Officers from West Mercia Police are investigating break-ins at Bronygarth Road in Weston Rhyn and Rhyn Lane in St Martins, which both happened on Monday afternoon.

Inspector Tracey Ryan, pictured, said it is at this time of year when households have items of relatively high value that are “relatively unsecure”.

She continued: “Sadly it’s a time of year when it resonates more with people.

“It can make people feel intimidated in their own home, which is sad – but there are steps that they can take,” she said.

Insp Ryan said that Smartwater property-marking solution is available to buy at the West Mercia Police website, which also offers crime prevention advice.

“If anyone has any concerns, contact us or visit the website,” she added.

Insp Ryan explained that jewellery was taken during the raid at Rhyn Lane, which was reported at 3.10pm.

She added that a door had been forced and the property was searched, with Christmas presents that were in the home discarded by whoever was responsible.

Meanwhile, a bedroom window appeared to have been smashed to gain entry during the raid in Weston Rhyn, which was reported at 5.30pm.

Insp Ryan added that officers were attending the scene yesterday (Tuesday) to investigate further, while patrols are being increased in the area and crime prevention advice is being offered to residents.
