A man from St Martins has described part of the village as an 'accident hot spot'.

Steven Mountford contacted the Advertizer following an accident in Overton Road on Sunday, December 9.

A man was taken to hospital after he was hit by a car around 8pm.

Steven said: "There are a lot of crashes and near misses on the zebra crossing and mini roundabout on the road.

"Some poor gentleman got knocked down while crossing the road and thrown into the air suffering some injuries.

"I myself have witnessed three people being knocked down and accidents at the mini roundabout, as well as also nearly being knocked down myself on more than one occasion.

"Soon it will be a child going to Stans Superstore using the crossing that will be killed. It very disappointing that nothing has been done," he added.

Shropshire Councillor Steve Davenport, portfolio holder for Highways and Transport, said that he agreed the road is too dangerous.

"It is a hot spot for accidents, and that has been recognised by Shropshire Council," he said.

"The mini roundabout is too heavily used – it's got four roads in and out and it's used by a lot of Heavy Goods Vehicles.

"I am currently working to get funds together to get the roundabout replaced.

"I personally recognise that it is dangerous and needs improvement. The roundabout needs to be bigger and to have a different layout – but that of course means we'd need land to expand on to.

"It's not a quick fix, but it has been recognised."
