AN £80 million funding package to help farmers face the challenges of Brexit and support environmental goals in Wales has been welcomed.

Kathryn Williams, at the Oswestry office Davis Meade Property Consultants, said that the commitment to continue grant funding will provide certainty for land managers and ensure delivery of important environmental work.

Lesley Griffiths, Welsh Government cabinet secretary for energy, planning and rural affairs, announced that the money will be available to extend many Glastir agreements, enable further investment through the Sustainable Production Grant and allow the continuation of the Farm Business Grant.

Funding of £62.9m will extend all Glastir Advanced agreements, including underlying Glastir Entry elements where they are in place, all current Glastir Commons agreements and all current Glastir Organics contracts to 2021. There will also be a further round of Glastir Small Grants.

A further £16m allocation will be made to the Sustainable Production Grant to help farmers prepare for the introduction of regulations to protect water quality from agricultural pollution and improve their nutrient management.

The current Farm Business Grant will also continue and will support farmers to invest in equipment and machinery to increase their business sustainability and profitability
