A SURVEY on the location for a central bus station in Welshpool has been released.

The proposal is being put forward by the Welsh Government and Powys County Council and has the support of the town council in Welshpool too.

The survey, which is available online on the Welshpool Town Council website or in the Tourist Information Centre, is simply asking for the views of local residents on the location for the bus station.

It was posted on Thursday, December 13, and gives people three weeks to have their say on where they would like to see a bus station in the town.

County Times:

There are three locations on offer: Berriew Street Car Park, Church Street Car Park and Broad Street - Welshpool's main street.

To fill out the survey, you need to say if you want there to be a bus exchange in Welshpool and then put the three options in order of preference. It also asks if you live in Welshpool or further afield.

Robert Robinson, the town clerk of Welshpool Town Council, said in a post on the council's Facebook page: "Welshpool Town Council has been looking to have a central bus station for some time now and it is a policy within the Town and Community Plan 2017-2022.

"Discussions have taken place and a workshop held with Welsh Government, Powys County Council, local councillors and bus operators in attendance.

"Due to time constraints in the planning of this new facility this survey needs to be completed by 4th January 2019 – not ideal but I am sure all will rise to the challenge of taking part."

"I attach the survey sheet which is seeking to gain views simply on the location of a bus station – not the design which will follow."

On the time council website, the "not ideal" timing of the survey is also acknowledged. "All responses should be returned no later than January 4, 2019.

"Please excuse the completion of this survey over the Christmas period - not ideal but this is due to time restraints."
