An APPEAL has been made for witnesses after a Santa themed steam train carrying children hit a dog in Llangollen last weekend.

Insp Rob Rands said: “We can confirm that a collision occurred between a train and a pack of dogs at approximately 4pm on Sunday 9th December, close to Deeside Halt station on the Llangollen Railway as the engine returned to Llangollen.

“The train contained a number of families who had been on a Santa steam train journey.

He added: “Statements have been taken from the railway staff and other witnesses are being sought. Our enquiries are continuing in order to identify those in control of the dogs at the time of the collision.”

Anyone who may have been in the area at the time who may have seen the pack of animals or who captured them on dash cam is urged to call the Rural Crime Team on 101 or use the live webchat
