A CYCLIST has been taken to hospital following a "severe collision" with a car near St Asaph.

The collision, which happened outside the Bod Erw hotel, caused "absolute chaos" for motorists on and around the A55, near the junction 27 off slip westbound.

Motorists were stuck for more than an hour from about 8.30 am near the Talardy interchange.

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Service said: "We were called on Wednesday, December 12 at about 8am to a road traffic incident on the roundabout on the A525 at junction 27, St Asaph, of the A55.

"We responded with one Rapid Response Vehicle and an Emergency Ambulance and one patient was taken to Glan Clwyd Hospital."

A spokesperson from North Wales Police said: "Officers dealt with a serious collision on the Junction 27 off slip at St Asaph outside the Bod Erw Hotel involving a car and a cyclist.

"The offslip has now re-opened.

"The cyclist remains in hospital at this time.

"Thank you for your patience whilst we carried out our initial investigation of the scene."

An eyewitness, who wishes to remain anonymous, said: "I was stuck in traffic for about an hour, it was absolute chaos.

"A fire engine had to move onto the grass, because traffic on both lanes of the dual carriage way - including four school buses - was backed up almost all the way to Rhuddlan"

A spokesperson for fire confirmed that the fire crew was on call to a seperate incident.
