PLANS to make town centre parking more family-friendly are being investigated.

Oswestry Town Council has agreed to look into the possibility of providing six parent and child parking bays in Central Car Park.

Councillor Olly Rose proposed the move in a motion to the Finance and General Purposes Committee on Monday.

In her motion, she said: "Quite a number of people expressed the need for this facility in the comments on social media relating to the recent car parking consultation.

"It is very difficult in the present bays to get a baby seat out of a car, making it hard for parents of very young children to access the town centre."

Cllr Rose initially suggested two bays, but this was increased after a positive response from members.

Cllr Vince Hunt said suggested looking into introducing six bays at the car park.

Cllr Peter Cherrington agreed with the proposal and said that the only problem was that the council had no legal right to prosecute "ignorant idiots" who might misuse the bays.

Members voted unanimously to support the amended motion to investigate providing six spaces, located together, at Central Car Park.
