There was plenty of Christmas giving spirit at Chirk’s St Mary’s Church on Saturday as the NSPCC held a fair and coffee morning.

The church, in Trevor Road, saw plenty of visitors to its hall on Saturday morning with stalls offering bric-a-brac and some high-quality homemade goods.

Visitors were expertly chased down by the event’s raffle sellers for a ‘talking Paddington Bear’ and guests enjoyed coffee and cake when not sniffing out a bargain.

Chikl NSPCC/Childline branch chairman Ferelith Smith was delighted with the number of people who came out to support their hard work in putting the event on.

“It was a very good turnout for our Christmas coffee morning,” she said.

“Last year, we had a lot of snow which impacted on numbers so it was nice this year to have nice weather and the sun even came out.

“That’s helped us here. We’ve had lots of locally-made crafts and people from the town have done Christmas stalls.

“I’d like to thank everyone for coming and to the team for doing it all really.

“We had a lot of mulled win for everyone and the raffle prize was the brilliant Paddington Bear.”

Meanwhile, on Friday, December 14, the group will be holding a history talk by Graham Greasley and Deryn Poppitt and the Hand Hotel in Chirk.

Tickets are £6 and are available from fereliths@gmail.com or on 01691 7743487. There will be a bar and a raffle.
