A CHOIR gave a festive fundraising performance in aid of a church.

The Guilsfield Singers gave a Christmas concert at St Myllin's Church on Saturday.

It was the first of an annual series of concerts organised by Friends of St Myllin's Church.

The performance, under the baton of Paul Wardell and accompanied by Philip Harrett, also featured soprano soloist Sarah Garrett.

There was also a programme of Christmas music and readings.

Councillor Simon Baynes, trustee of the Friends of St Myllin’s Church and mayor of Llanfyllin, said: “We are very grateful to the Guilsfield Singers for getting our concert series at St Myllin’s Church off to such a good start. I would like to thank the Rev’d Hermione Morris for making the church available to us and Keith Blacker (Trustee of the Friends of St Myllin’s) for organising the event. We are also indebted to the other Trustees and supporters for attending and providing a delicious post-concert supper for the choir.”

Fellow trustee Keith Blacker said that the concert exceeded expectations and praised the "excellent" singing.

“Concert plans at St Myllin’s for next year are well advanced: on Saturday, April 6 we have the Friends Anniversary Coffee Morning with music from Llanfyllin High School pupils to mark one year since the Friends organisation was started," he added.

"Then on St Myllin’s Day on Saturday, June 15 there will be a concert in the evening given by the Penybontfawr Male Voice Choir.”
