A HOSPICE staff member returned to her former workplace to collect donations from the firm’s clients.

Delyth Underwood, who works at Nightingale House, visited GHP Legal to pick up the funds.

Delyth, who was formerly assistant practice manager at the firm, received around £1,600.

The money came from clients who had had wills drawn up during this year’s Will Week campaign.

GHP Legal, which has offices in Oswestry, Chirk, Llangollen and Wrexham, has supported both Will Week and Nightingale House for a number of years.

Will Week is an annual awareness event during which lawyers across the country offer a free basic will-writing service in exchange for a suggested charitable donation.

Between October 8-12, GHP Legal solicitors Ulia Choudhry, Lowri Gwyn Jones and Sarah Kennedy wrote free basic wills for 52 clients at the firm’s Wrexham and Llangollen offices in return for donations to Nightingale House.

As some clients have yet to go in to sign their wills and make a donation, it is hoped the final figure raised will top £2,000.

Nightingale House in Wrexham provides specialist palliative care services, completely free-of-charge, to patients and their families.

The hospice’s catchment area covers a large portion of North Wales, as well as the Oswestry and Whitchurch areas.

Running costs will be more than £3million for this year, with only 20 per cent covered by statutory funds.

Accepting the donations on behalf of the hospice, Delyth said: “Every year Nightingale House Hospice asks legal firms in the area if they are willing to waive their fees and prepare basic wills for clients in exchange for a donation to the hospice.

“All donations help us to do what we do best here at the hospice – to care for local people when they need us most.

“We are so grateful to all those clients and their solicitors who took part in this year’s scheme.”
