There is now less than three weeks until Oswestry welcomes more than 100 Santas for a festive fun run.

Organised by Jody Wilson and Matt Plowden, the Charity Santa Run takes place on Saturday, December 22.

A 2.5km run and a 5km run will take place in the morning starting at Moreton Hall School and progressing along a mainly grass course.

Money raised from the event will go towards Jody and Matt’s London Marathon charity campaign in aid of leukaemia care.

With more than 100 people participating, Jody is hoping the event can raise more than £1,000.

Jody said: “This is the first time we have organised a Santa run.

“Oswestry used to have one years ago but doesn’t anymore, so I thought it would be a nice way to make money and get everyone in the festive mood.

“Between us, we’ve set a target of £3,500 to raise – so the more donations we get for this event the merrier.

“We’ll be holding more events in the new year to raise further funds.”

Jody has raised money for the charity in the past, after his sister was diagnosed with a rare form of leukaemia in 2014.

Since then, he has raised more than £10,000 for the charity having raised money for them at the last four London Marathons.

Jody gave his thanks to everyone that has helped to raise money so far and those who will be taking part on the day.

He added: “I think it’s great to have so many different people signed up to take part in the event.

“It would be nice to see some people come along and offer support to everyone taking part, and hopefully we’ll have some snow on the day to add to the festive theme.

“We would also like to thank the sponsors of the event – Harding Tile Supplies, Doggy Day Care Shropshire, Griffiths Hire Shops and Manford Farm Contractors.”

Registration for participants opens at 8.30am and the race begins at 11am. Entry for participation has now closed, but those wishing to donate to the cause can do so by visiting https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/Team/jodyandmattbeastLondon
