It was a successful weekend for a pub and brewery in Ellesmere, as they were presented with Campaign for Real Ale awards (CAMRA).

The Vault in Ellesmere was awarded the Pub of the Season and Chapel Brewery’s ‘Incarnation’ was named the People’s Choice Beer of the Festival at the Shrewsbury Beer Festival earlier this year.

The business owners were presented with their awards by the chairman of Shrewsbury and West Shropshire CAMRA, Dave Roll and the secretary Dave Ricketts.

Owners of The Vault, Paul and Tracy Brown, were “chuffed to bits” with the award.

“We’ve only been at the pub for 15 months, so it was a great surprise to find out we’d won,” said Paul.

“It’s been 15 months of hard work. It can take years for people to win this award, it’s quite a big achievement to receive from CAMRA."

Ken King, from Chapel Brewery, was also pleased to win.

"Around 80 to 90 breweries were at the festival so for Incarnation to be crowned Beer of the Festival by the public is brilliant," said Ken.

Ken has been at Chapel Brewery for five years, and makes a range of beers, all with religious names, and have this year launched new Christmas beers – Humbug and Last Supper, which are on tap at tonight's Oswestry Cricket Club's Beer and Gin Fest.

The brewery is hosting an Open Day on December 23, when they'll be offering beer boxes, bottles and gift sets from 9am to 6pm.

The last date for Christmas order is December 16.
