RESIDENTS in Oswestry and some surrounding areas were left without electricity last night.

Morrisons supermarket on Station Road remains without power, with Scottish Power Energy Networks hoping to get the electricity up and running by 3pm today.

A powercut struck the area at around 8.45pm last night, leaving the area without power for an hour.

Spokesman for Scottish Power Energy Networks, Stephanie Todd, said: "There was an underground cable fault in the area at 8.43pm on Thursday.

"Power was down while repairs were being made, and was back up and running about 9.45pm."

At 9am today, some traffic lights were still without power, but have since been fixed by engineers.

Stephanie added: "There will be some tidying up throughout the day to ensure everything is working as it should be.

"Our main priority last night was getting power back to homes and businesses.

"We apologise for any inconvenience caused to people in the area."
